pops

No Desserts? That's ok. Thanks to JNay and Will, Ben and I can make freeze pops...out of almost anything.

We made Strawberry Milk pop a couple weeks ago and they were delish! The best part about this contraption is that it only takes 7 minutes for your pops to freeze.  Seriously, 7 minutes and you're good to go. What to make next? No shortage of ideas here. Not to mention they got us a book of recipes!

Hannah Zier "photoshoot"

Without the proper funds to hire a real model, I did what I could...hire (pro bono) my sister to use me as a muse for my Hannah Zier product. It was super awkward, but Ivana's a great photographer and she made it easy for me to feel comfortable!  I used iMovie for the first time and tried to create a quick snipit of the photos she took.  Thanks, Ivana!

Secret Garden

When I was little, The Secret Garden was one of my favorite movies, and for some reason, while we were visiting Cummer Gardens in Jacksonville, FL, I was reminded of the movie. I remember always wanting to have a secret garden of my own, so for the purpose of this post, I made Ben take pictures of me and my imaginary secret garden...

Shhhhh,

Riverdale Inn ~ Bed & Breakfast

Living Social Escapes: The best thing that's ever happened to inboxes getting filled with nonsense emails that I just delete by habit each morning. Last month, I purchased Ben's birthday gift--a weekend stay at a Bed & Breakfast in Jacksonville, Florida--through these Living Social Escapes.  Yes, I know it was Ben's birthday, but I have alwayyyyyyyyyys wanted to stay at a Bed & Breakfast, so we both won in this situation!  The Bed & Breakfast deal was for the Riverdale Inn which included 2 nights, a bottle of wine or champagne (chose the red wine...which will be featured in a Fiesta Friday post tomorrow...it was delish), breakfast each morning, high tea (classy, yup!) and tickets to Cummer Gardens down the road. The Riverdale Inn is located in the historic part of Jacksonville, so we were in for a nice, relaxing weekend just the two of us! And it was more than nice. It was arguably the best trip we have taken together--both of us agreed :).

Here are some pics from the weekend:

Downstairs...before we went to historic downtown for some drinks, dinner and cornhole.

High tea!!!!

Went to a Japanese restaurant for dinner one night.  This entire meal (edemame, rice, veggies, lo mein, shrimp, chicken, salad and miso soup) was only $13. And I thought Ishi gave good deals!?

So next time you're trying to think of a mini-vacation to take with someone special, I highly suggest a Bed & Breakfast.  In particular, the Riverdale Inn if you happen to want to make it down South.

Things I love about the 4th of July...

Let me preface this post with the fact that the 4th of July is MY FAVORITE holiday. Today (Saturday) we are taking the liberty (pun intended) to turn the 4th of July into an entire weekend celebration...I mean, we do have Monday off!

Now, here is why I love the 4th of July (and why everyone else should too):
  • Friends. 4th of July is one of those holidays you can celebrate with allll of your friends and family.  It's not a friend-only or family-only holiday. It's a holiday for everyone---even strangers.
  • Wearing red, white and blue. Duh. It's great. It's like dressing up for college theme parties, but I'm not in college anymore.  One can dream.
  • BBQ. Burning charcoal, grilled corn on the cob, hotdog buns with ketchup (Frankfest?! Anyone?), pickles.
  • Drinks. Themed, of course.
  • Decorations. Including firework straws, per my photo below.
  • Beach. Backyard!!! Sun, blue skies (I hope), fluffy clouds and tans.
  • Get a day off of work.
  • Country music. It's Amuuurica.
I'm sure I can think of some more reasons as the day goes on...

Red, white and blue,
Hannah
