Guest Blogger ~ Amy
So when Hannah created her new blog Love Little Gems, I flipped! My life in medical school has been more than depressing this past year, and everyday I struggle to find the little gems and smile at them. But Hannah's new blog has been such a little gem itself. I look forward to reading it everyday during my 30 minutes of playing on the computer after class and lunch, before I start studying. The entries never fail to make me smile and remind me to always appreciate the small things in life. (I'm blushing, NBD)
So when I raved about the new creation to Hannah, she suggested a guest appearance (yeah that's right, writing out your positive thoughts really makes you feel good)...I also love little gems, and boy did I struggle with what to write about. Snail mail, Target (I feel ya, Hannah!), my new shades that I am obsessed with wearing, homemade cookies (mama hempels..yum), Starbucks coffee (my treat on the weekend)...but I ultimately decided on SNOW! I LOVE snow. I know you hate it Hannah (you know me too well, but it's pretty to look at from a warm room I guess), but seriously, snow never fails to put a smile on my face. I can be in the worst mood, and as soon as the magical white flakes begin falling from the sky, all my stress melts away and I get caught up in the wonder and beauty of the snow :) (she's not kidding about this, I always get an excited text or call when it's snowing)
Case in point...I have been back at school since January 3 and just took a test yesterday, January 28 on Cardiology. 4 weeks of cardio-wow what a miserable block!! But this past Wednesday afternoon, around 5:30pm, I was laboring along in the dungeon of stacks in the library with no windows or contact with the outside world and received a text from my friend Audrey who knows my love affair with snow. It had begun snowing on her drive home...I immediately freaked out and ran upstairs to see the flakes dance from the sky...It was BEAUTIFUL! Huge flakes were painting the dark night sky white as the street lights came on to add a subtle yellow glow. Not only did I revel in the beauty by my lonesome with a huge smile on my face, but I went downstairs to tell the boys who were still busy studying away. Patrick immediately jumped up, also like a little child, to run upstairs to see it. He recruited Andrew to take part in the fun in the meantime, and so the three of us stood there on the main floor with our noses plastered up to the window to enjoy the beauty of nature and to realize that life goes on despite studying...and boy is it beautiful! (I got a phone call..or text? one of those...that day!)
Later that night, I went home and picked up Audrey and her roommate Maryam to go to yoga. Still floating as the snow continued to fall, I smiled as the girls got in the car, and Maryam commented, "I have never met anyone who loves snow as much as you." It might just be true. I freakin love it!
So I hope next time snow happens to grace your presence, you can join me in enjoying this little gem and the beauty it brings to the earth. Love love love it! Thanks for letting me share my happy place with you!!! Much love! Oh and PS...I'm one of those tall friends (6'1") Hannah has mentioned previously (yeaaaaah!), , and I wore my knee-high 2" heeled boots out last night to celebrate the end of our test block...it was fun and quite empowering (see post about why tall girls should wear heels...she should and she did and she loved it)!!
